The Moriarty Journal
This a live blog that we will continue to update so please check back regularly for recommendations and reviews of some of our favorite things in Aspen Snowmass.
Road Biking in the Roaring Fork Valley
With the sun lasting longer every day, the flowers blooming, the trees popping, and shorts and t-shirts coming out, bike season is amongst us. There is a little bit for everybody whether you are a beach cruiser, road biker, or downhiller Aspen Snowmass has it all. If you’re a road biker, some of the routes are obvious, but a lot of the best ones are word of mouth. Here are a few of my favorite road routes.
Public golf courses in the Roaring Fork Valley
From someone who grew up in Aspen Junior Golf and now consistently finds himself fighting the age-old battle of man v. golf ball, here are some public golf courses I strongly recommend. In the next edition, I will touch on the private courses that add another level of incredible golf to this valley.
Jackson Hole Review
If you have never been, I urge you to visit. While it’s often compared to Aspen Snowmass, it is wildly different. The open plains contrast with the rigged Tetons to create dramatic landscapes and constantly changing weather patterns. There is ruggedness and wild west energy to the climate and to the people. It has been molded over the years to maintain the rawness and there is a true sense of authenticity that people wear on their sleeves (and on the back of their trucks).
Best Uphill
For all of the adrenaline and fitness junkies, winter not only represents a time to jump on the Aspen Gondola or take deep lines down Temerity at Highlands, but it is also the beginning of skinning, uphilling, and AT skiing. This is for the people who don’t always like to use the lift, but like to climb the mountain with their own two feet and reap the benefit of earning your turns.
